The Great Tomato Race

here it is the first sunday of may and we are in the dr. charles tomato competition. the lovely tomato plants above were started from seed in this very greenhouse. they are Oregon Spring Bush and Yellow Pear Cherry heirloom (both are listed as lycopersicon esculentum on their seed packets. no, i don't know which plant is which). our local nurseries all recommend waiting till may to set tomatoes out in order to avoid frost, so some of our starts will go out today. we'll save some just in case of a late frost. we also received some heirloom creole tomato seeds from an internet friend in louisiana and we eagerly await their sprouting.

below is a bonus picture of lettuce, mesclun mix, carrots, and beets.
