you may notice that all comments have gone away. new comments will stay. we changed our comment system from haloscan, which now wants to charge for its use, to blogger. we have a copy of all our haloscan comments. if there is ever a way to transfer them to blogger comments we will do so. that's my comment. we have 20,832 comments copied, all of them pithy. keep 'em coming.
updatearoonyism.....
when we switched from haloscan to blogger comments all prior comments were gone. we have a copy, but don't know how to insert them back on the various posts. and we may not care. also, the font size thing is confusing. i "fixed" this post, but i'm not sure how.
The gumbo was delicious. You could make that again anytime!
ReplyDeleteroger,
ReplyDeletelooks delicious! So glad it met with double approval! :)
Oh, man, you're making my stomach growl!
ReplyDeleteLast weekend, a friend drove out from eastern Mass for a concert. She was a bit late because she has been making a different soup every week--to last a week--for her daughter who is a new mom. Last Saturday, she made a gumbo that took her from 8:30 in the morning to 4:00 in the afternoon to make. She says it was worth it.
Oh, I'm so glad I just had lunch! Otherwise I would be drooling all over my keyboard! Looks, terrific, Roger! Hope you guys week is going well!

Love Gumbo----would omit sausage too, but add at last minute shrimp and Bay scallops. As for comments, they are like snowflakes---often beautiful and affirrming, but temporary and gone. peace MandT & Bodhi Dog
ReplyDeleteLooks yummy guys, but hey, what happened to all the comments on your previous posts?
ReplyDeleteThey all say 0 comments?
That looks like really good gumbo. Thanks for the link to the recipe!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a cast iron skillet. I "rediscovered" iron about a year ago as I began to wonder about the chemical composition of the high-tech coatings most cookware has these days. (You don't think a corporation would neglect to tell us about potential health risks for the sake of a little profit, do you???) My heavy pan is so much fun to use, it really makes me wonder about other things we gave up for the sake of "progress."
ReplyDeleteIt looks delicious. Too bad Haloscam wants to mess with everyone now.
ReplyDeleteYummy!!!!
ReplyDeleteKeep it free!!
looks tasty! sounds like a perfect meal for a chilly day. i have had seafood gumbo which i loved.
ReplyDeletethe font was so tiny on this post i wasn't sure my reading glasses were going to do the job! not the same font as the other posts. does it show up very tiny for you, too? no one else has mentioned this.
Isn't FC the best. Love his blog. Your meatless version sounds yummy also.
ReplyDeletesounds great! and yeah for free comments!
ReplyDeleteYum, gumbo is delish. Trader Joes (and other stores I'm sure) carry a Chicken Andouille sausage that is awesome on many levels that would be a great addition!
ReplyDeleteI put it into my jambalaya. I love that cajun cookin'!
Gumbo, stew, hearty soup - they're all such great winter warm dishes! Think I'll make stew tonight! thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteLooks divine! I like how you adapted a delightfully delicious recipe into a delightfully delicious recipe. I confess to enjoying snausages but this vegetarian version could work quite nicely when I have our favorite environmentalist over for dinner. I think the roux is the crux of the matter. :-)
ReplyDeleteRoger. What can I say about this MRI episode? I'm sliding more and more in the direction of not engaging in expensive, extensive tests. In the past year I noticed not hearing quite so well out of one ear so I asked for a hearing test. Lo and behold, after 3 hours of testing, the audiologist announced that I didn't hear quite so well out of one ear- and referred me for an MRI. And I thought why? I have the good sense to know that this is part of my particular aging process and I can make a decision about when and whether to get a hearing aid or just keeping saying, "What??" I don't need an MRI to figure this out. And I definitely don't want surgery at this point, so that's a long way of saying, "Go, Roger!"
The gumbo looks great. I may just have to give it a try! Pesky about haloscan but we'll all just work hard to make a bunch of new comments.
ReplyDeleteNot that I'm overly fond of rules, especially when it comes to recipes, but is it the browned flour that makes a gumbo a gumbo? I had been thinking it was the okra. If it's the flour, I broke that rule, too, but since I was making the gumbo in an effort to save my husband from the can of Cambpell's he'd put in the grocery cart the week before, I kind of figured rules were already out the window anyway.
ReplyDeleteYOURS is beautiful! I love soup season!!
looks and sounds great. i think i would add chicken sausage.....but the shrimp thing sounds delicious too.
ReplyDeletehow fun. something about making gumbo or chili that particularly stirs a man's soul, and appetite.
