We were surprised and thrilled to see dragonflies and butterflies so early in February. The black mushroom is a Fluted Black Elfin Saddle. The shiny golden mushroom has not been identified yet. The lake, as far as we know, has no name. There is no news on the housing front. The weather and these sights have balanced our ongoing disappointment.
Beautiful photos. Mushrooms are amazing for their variety and beauty. It's been warm here too. 60° tomorrow; so maybe we will soon seen dragonflies also. The grass is growing wonderfully and I am in the mood to plant although I know we will still get freezes.
Gorgeous shots, Robin! And the reflection in the lake is breathtaking. We're having some very mild weather, too, and I'm looking forward to getting out with the camera tomorrow. Some of the flowering tress are already blooming and there are lots of leaf buds on our lilac tree. Holding good thoughts for some positive news about the house! Have a lovely evening!
You are getting me interested in mushrooms. Endless varieties. That gold one looks almost metalic. Hope that lake is near you and also hope you hear about the house soon. Tender hooks is no place to be.
What a wonderful series of photos! The lake is spectacular. I am just plain green with envy over the dragonfly and butterfly--they're still months away for us. And the name of the black mushroom deserves a story of its own, one which revolves around a very special saddle from the land of the Fay.
That's a joyous lake in winter. I can imagine it in other seasons, too. That sure looks like mistletoe to me. I remember seeing mistletoe in the winter trees in the coast hills south of San Francisco.
Even though it's sunny here today, I love seeing the California light in your photos.
May you and Roger hear good news about the home you are hoping for!
Hey everyone, thanks so much for the comments. They are always appreciated. Yes, that is mistletoe in the trees. Isn't it cool? Today we walked along the Yuba River and discovered that the California Tortoiseshell butterfly is out in abundance. So are some azure blues. It's amazing how we've leaped squarely into spring, but I won't be surprised if we are reminded of winter between now and the equinox.
the mushroom cap looks like a brass ball or doorknob - gorgeous! So nice to get out into when we can....our great weather of yesterday has turned cold, overcast and gloomy.
so many wonderful discoveries, each one beautiful. Brings back great memories of heading to the Sierra Nevadas to pick mistletoe for the holidays. I'm so anxious to see butterflies and dragonflies again.. and anything green :)

ReplyDeleteThere won't be any dragonflies or mushrooms around Missouri for a while. I'm glad someone is getting to enjoy them.
