The emergency of pain is over. My head stopped pulsating and throbbing like a twitching atom bomb about to ignite. That's the good part. The neck x-rays showed "serious and significant" changes in C5-C6-C7. My doctor said, "I can't rule out cord involvement." Holy shit, said I. My neck has been bothering me for 40 years, since a car accident and whiplash in 1971. We tend to dismiss this stuff, and here it is all these years later kicking some serious ass. My doctor referred me for rehabilitation (I could use that on so many levels. LOL!). She said, "They can do everything short of surgery." I was very happy when they called. Their first opening is September 12th. Well, okay then, sure hope I don't have a repeat headache that feels like the back of my head is going to open and a movie monster pops out before then. Well, really, I didn't say that, but I thought it.
In the meantime, I'm really feeling okay. My neck is funky, but I'm back to living my life the way I always do. You know... we go out for our long walks along the irrigation ditch. Just the other day we saw a bird splashing in the water, quite a distance away. I wondered, "What is that bird? A female mallard? A water bird I haven't seen before?" So I took a few photos, as it clambered up on the bank.
Turned out to be a juvenile Cooper's Hawk that had just been taking a bath. Oh hello!
You would probably have better with a good chiropractor on the neck. Neurosurgeons and orthopedists tend to want to fuse those. Scary those headaches. Hope you have had an MRI/CT, make sure you don't have an problem in the brain.
ReplyDeleteI hate those specialists that can't see you for a month or so. Why bother? I know you want to get past this. Hope the rehab knows what they are doing and are successful.
ReplyDeleteI had a friend this happened to about 20 years ago. The headache that put her in the ER never reappeared. Hope that is your case also. Keep us in the loop.
Sorry you are going to have to wait so long to see a specialist. However, also interesting as one of the main arguments that critics in the U.S. like to toss out as an argument against the Canadian health care system is that it takes too long to get to see a specialist or for surgery. I don't buy that at all as specialists and surgery have Lways been available within days for serious conditions.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, I hope some kind of therapy will be found to work. A friend who has a very messed up spine from unavoidable years of steroids found a terrific accupuncturist who has done wonders with the pain in his spine and frequent headaches associated with the bad things happening with his vertebrae. She has done what all other therapy and medications failed to help.

We are sending healing vibs your way. It's one of the surprising things of aging that those old wounds come back to haunt us. My knees are doing that now, spoiling those long trail walks so essential to peace of mind. ---Hope and trust you will be better. peace, MandT

at least the headache has not returned - and hopefully it never will. Last time I saw a neurologist for a raging headache, he informed me that my MRI showed evidence of two small strokes that happens years ago. Imagine my surprise! Well, I guess that explains a LOT.

Truly a Cooper's Hawk is not the first thing that comes to mind when you hear water splashing. That must have been such a delightful surprise.

I've been concerned about you. I'm glad the headache hasn't returned, but I wish you could see the doc sooner.

ReplyDeleteI've had a headache since Sunday. I don't think it is a serious one, but it is lasting too long. You, Taradharma, and me all dealing with headaches this week. Wonder what that is all about?
Today I was unable to get an appointment at my primary care physician's office but was able to get a 2:15 p.m. appointment with my naturopath. I've found that a good acupuncturist and a good naturopath can do wonders while I wait for the appointment in my primary care provider's office. And that sometimes I can just bypass the primary care provider after seeing the naturopath or the acupuncturist.
Hope you get the help you need for your neck and lasting relief.
