Roger took me to the ER at 4:00 AM Saturday morning. I had a horrific sudden onset headache that would not quit. It lasted for several hours, finally compelling me to seek assistance and answers. There was no one in the waiting room, so we were taken in right away. The nurse immediately attempted to put in an IV. You can see her handy work in the above photo. I didn't mind, and I actually didn't feel a thing. I hadn't taken any of the pain meds they offered, so I was completely sidetracked by the relentless and intense pain in the back of my head. What did this fumbling around with my arm matter to me? It didn't. They wheeled me down an empty corridor for a CT scan because I presented with symptoms that could have been an aneurysm. The scan found nothing and is 90% reliable. They wanted to do a spinal tap, which I refused. I still don't know what caused this major painful event in my brain, but I am waiting for an appointment with a neurologist, to whom I was referred by my GP on Monday.Health matters are a very bizarre detour from the routines of regular life. I don't really like them. And look what they did to my arm!!!

ReplyDeleteYikes, sure don't like to hear that and just hope they come up with a diagnosis soon so you don't have a repeat. Hope the pain is totally gone now.

Hope whatever it is, was, is gone soon!!!
Hate it when a vein gets bruised like that. Unfortunately, It has happened to me a lot over the years. The technicians always look at my arms, roll their eyes and say, "ugh, you have bad veins!". Whodda thunk?
ReplyDeleteHope the headache goes away, does not return, and turns out to be something inconsequential. Headaches are such mysterious things. Worrisome, but often seem to go away as quickly as they occur. A few weeks ago, I had one of the worst headaches in my life - bad enough that I doubt I could not have driven myself to the hospital. Took about 2 days to get feeling okay again - no idea what brought it on, but seem to be okay now. When such things happen these days, I must admit that my main concern is always who will look after my dogs if something goes wrong. That worries me more than just about anything else! (-:
so sorry you have had to go through this and hope it is resolved soon with news that there is nothing to worry about. omg, speaking of bruised veins/arms - i am going to send you a photo. i had to tell them not to touch me again until a plebotomist was on duty! she came in early and got me with ONE stick! some nurses just don't know how to do it!

ReplyDeleteI was hoping you'd post today...Glad that you are feeling better and that monster headache is gone for good. That nasty bruise will fade into all kinds of colors and one day *poof* disappear.
ReplyDeleteDamn! healing vibs!!!!!!! I've made about a 180 degree turn regarding pain meds in the past six months---- The way pain ruins daily life is just awful.
ReplyDeletecan't say that anybody LIKES hospitals, but sometimes they are necessary. Poor lil' arms -- mine do that, too. Although I've been in so many times, I can show them exactly where to draw blood for minimum damage.

I'm thinking positive thoughts for you. I do hope the monster headache is a one-time thing. As you know, there are many, many reasons for headaches and sometimes the reason cannot be determined. It just is. You are wise to have a followup with an expert. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteHeadaches are freakin' scary sometimes. I dearly hope it is nothing. I know it was truly awful, for you to go to the hospital.
ReplyDeleteAs for the bruising, I always end up with bruises like that when I have blood taken.
When I had my colonoscopy, it took three nurses a total of SIX tries to get into a functional vein. They told me I have small veins and of course, despite how much water you drink, you're always a bit dehydrated, so that didn't help. I was laughing by the end of the process. What else could I do?
