Simple Ruminations on a Walk

The sun rose and reflected rose-colored on the Olympic Mountains. How easy it could be, we think, to look at life through rose-colored glasses.

There is an edginess in the world, but here we find the lacy edge of a mushroom growing under the pines and alders.

A simple pale yellow mushroom grows just outside our fenced garden, and we remember that so much happening in the world is simply beyond the pale.

A deeper yellow cap on this mushroom reminds us to think deeply about the times that lay ahead for us, and to work for a leadership that will respect this earth.

This orange capped mushroom grabs our attention, and reminds us that many things will call to us, but few will really warrant a deeper look.

This stunning orange peel fungus invigorates our senses, and we remember to celebrate the sensuality that can not be marketed falsely.

Deep red leaves stirred by fall breezes will soon be on the ground and forgotten; their transience will nourish next year's mushrooms.
