Home And Already Doing Chores

All the surgeon said was, "Don't lift anything heavier than ten pounds." Roger has taken that to heart and is doing everything he can without the heavy lifting. Yes, this makes me nervous, but look at the face. He's delighted to be washing Indigo's truck. Happiness must tip the scales on the side of healing.

  1. Hey, if he can do it without pain, more power to him! I would caution against vigorous scrubbing of said truck, but the task is done. Roger, you take it easy now, you need recovery time! Okay, now I"ll stop mothering him.

  2. Definitely he has to follow orders but there is probably a lot he can do without lifting too much weight. It has to be wonderful to be home after a long hospital stay. Thanks for the update. I know that we are all thinking of you both.

  3. Yes, that looks like a happy man to me. I think there's a lot you can do after surgery so long as you listen to your body and don't push yourself to do anything that hurts. Take frequent rest breaks, yadda yadda yadda. As you know, Don and I took off on a canoe day trip about 3 weeks after I had pretty significant surgery. Of course, I caught hell from my surgeon when he found out, but what can I say? (-:

  4. Having overdone it myself once or twice after surgery, I advise caution...but not too much! Have fun, Roger, but live by the words: "It's OK to have a reasonable "allergy" to pain."

  5. I'm going to join with the previous posts and say, from personal experience, follow the spirit as well as the letter of the recovery law or you definitely risk a setback. I lost a couple of months by pushing too hard at my limits.

On the other hand, I understand 200% why you are pushing it. I'd probably make the same mistake again!

Enough finger-wagging. What a delightful surprise that photo is! It's good to have photographic evidence that you are home and healing apace.

  7. I know Roger is soooo glad to be home! He's amazing! And I know you are glad, too! He looks terrific! Just don't let him get too carried away! So happy for you both! Still holding good thoughts for you both as always!

  8. Hmmm. You couldn't just go for a walk
and give those stitched together muscle and tissue a few days maybe? You do look great on the outside however. You look like you're having fun too. This is a good thing. Love to you both.

  11. It must feel so great to be back in every day life, out of the sloggy lethargy of hospital stays. Roger looks very happy indeed and I imagine you and Indigo will rein him in if he gets too frisky.

  12. Even if it turns out a bit too much tomorrow or the next day, the fact that Roger wanted to, then did it, speaks volumes; any setback will be overcome. I'd be so afraid for him, for you both, if he were burying himself beneath the sheets waiting for his broth and sponge bath, like so many others post-op.

    This is so encouraging.

    The smile says it all.

    Both your smiles.

    Such love between you.

    I feel blessed to witness.

  13. Ack! Please be careful. I overdid after a CSection once and ended up with a bad infection. Take care!

  14. Good for him! Nothing can keep someone with that attitude down for long!

  15. Wonderful and ditto, "WOWS" Welcome home man!

  16. As long as he's careful, he'll be fine. I've been making liars out of doctors for years by doing things I'm not supposed to be able to do -- with a modicum of caution, of course!

  17. Roger's looking good! And exercise is associated with better outcomes, so go to it.

  18. I was dreading work this morning but Roger's smile and obvious joy at being freed from the hospital has me smiling, too.

So happy to see you like this!

  19. Is that possibly the same man you picked up the other day? How wonderful to see him doing so well. You must be a good nurse!

  20. Wonderfull to see roger minus tubes and bottles.
That 10 pound rule is not to be played with. For every stitch you see, there are many you don't and they need longer to heal.
Enjoy that real food and keep right on healing.
    Exhaling here.

  23. Happy to see Roger's big smile. I can totally relate to wanting/needing to do SOMETHING after surgery. I once played a gig (sitting down) shortly after a hernia operation and everyone was SO mad at my foolishness. But I HAD to do it.

Keep on healing, Roger. Do what makes you happy!

  24. He looks terrific! His body will let him know if it's time to set a spell and have some iced tea or lemonade. I was surprised after having abdominal surgery ten years ago how fast they wanted you up and walking. Laughing was the most painful thing to do!
    Right on, Roger.

  25. Roger,

When I saw the scaffolding system you built to work on your Wa. house job I knew you were a stud. You are proving it again.

  29. Great to see you out and about.

From what I've seen with a few friends who've had "heart attacks" to "prostate cancer".....your soul knows what's best and doing "nothing" isn't good for any ones soul!

    Regards to Robin too! Cheers!

  31. A little Courvoisier on ice, a toast to the paper moon, and a moment just to savour. Then ask.."What's next? Bring it on! I'm a survivor." ( and let someone else wash the truck)

  34. Oh, it makes my day to see Roger home again and looking so happy. No lifting things for sure, and lots of breaks and naps and just plain old sitting in the sun... Good for you, Roger!!!
