two kubotas, no waiting -- with update

our neighbor larry has 2 kubotas. different tractors for various jobs. one has a nice powered augur for digging post holes, but it has no way to exert the downward force required to drill into very dry soil. so i am piloting the other kubota and using the front bucket to press down on the augur on the other machine.

success!! all holes drilled and only a few mistakes on my part. fortunately these are very robust machines.

--------------------------------------------

i suppose i should have mentioned the garden fence project. about 300 feet of field fence to enclose an ambitiously large garden space. well we don't have to fill it all right away.

these tractors go forward when a foot pedal is depressed. backward when a different pedal is depressed. the forward-going pedal is close to the brake pedal. not a problem when stepping on the brake in error. a bit of a collision when stepping on the go pedal at the wrong time. thus my appreciation for their robustness.

i have put up a fair amount of fence. this is the first time the post hole digging has been mechanized.

I never quite felt the same about our tractors. (-:

  6. We have a kubota. When my husband is feeling blue or overwhelmed, he gets on his tractor and pretty soon, the world is a different place. Best cure what what ails you. Hopefully for you too.

  8. Tractors are definitely fun. I had a skid steer loader when i was building my house. When i had something to do that required the loader, it felt like a vacation.

  9. Well, that's a handy and quick way to dig post holes. Memories of my father digging the post holes to fence in acres of horse pasture when I was very very young indeed--all by hand. The smell of creosote still brings back those memories very intensely.

You do look a happy boy! Love to know what mistakes you made....

  10. how many post-holes are we talking here? but it is good to have machinery for them -- like the dual-engine fix to supplement the downward force.

  11. we bought a post hole digger to fit on the tractor. I use the word we bought very loosely. It is a great tool for many jobs.

  12. Is this the "good fences" principle? Good fences make good neighbors? I admire the skill with those big machines. Kubotas, eh? Always a first...

  14. I suppose I could Google Kubotas I find out what the diff is between a "bobcat" tractor and a Kubota.
Regardless, you do look like quite the conquering hero. I can just imagine the sound file that would accompany the picture. (Ya-Hoo! Hot Damn!)
You are in the country now, boy!

  16. robin, I just read the post about your fair. How sweet of you all to give the money to charity. Nice to see all you siblings also.
We once put on a carnival but it was for selfish reasons. We wanted a swing out over the lake. It is still there today.
