We don't… like it hot, that is. Well, I don't more than Roger doesn't, but both of us hate being cooped up in the house while the temperatures soar over 100 degrees day after day. You know us, we're outdoors people. We like being able to hike around any time and not have to think about the weather. We like to work in the garden, and not just run out in the early morning to check on things, before heading back in to hide. A winter day with 18 inches of new snow on the ground only makes us wonder if we have enough gear to take a walk somewhere. Not this heat though, we live our days inside with the indoor and outdoor shades drawn. That's just plain WRONG.
We're having our house painted over the next ten days or so starting Monday. I don't know how house painters are going to fare. I keep reminding myself that they must know how to manage, it's their job, and it does get HOT in the Sierra foothills. But still, shouldn't they be home in their cool houses with the shades drawn too? We've been planning on this paint job for quite some time. Unfortunately it's coinciding with this crazy heatwave.
In preparation for the house to go from cool blue to deep barn red, we had to move a bunch of stuff like hummingbird feeders and the outdoor shades that protect us from the relentless sun. The birds did not like that little trick at all. Even though the feeders are not more than ten feet away and totally obvious, they complained quite a bit about having to make this outrageous adjustment. I think they were probably saying, "On top of this insane heat, you moved our feeders?"
I know, I know wah wah wah, I'm such a big cry baby about heat. It's true. Still, global climate change is pretty scary stuff, and if this summer is any indication about the future… well, that's the stuff of nightmares.
I do so relate!! I do hate the heat and while it isn't as hot here as it is in lots of other places, it's hot considering we didn't even have an 80 degree day until this month! I'm such a wuss! Have a good week and stay cool!
ReplyDeleteAs I come in to take a break from our hot day (69°) I checked out what new post were up. Yours made me feel a lot cooler for sure. :)
ReplyDeleteI escaped to Bolinas yesterday where it was cool and breezy. :-)
ReplyDeletethose silly hummers....you'd think they'd be happy no matter where their feeders were located -- I guess the heat makes them grouchy.
Good luck on the painting! We have construction workers out in the sun all day in Sac, I watch them from the solar run air conditioning inside.
I'm a big baby about the heat, too. I love fog and I'm missing it so much! Whine, whine, whine!
ReplyDeleteAs I recall, summer in those foothills has always been hot. Not fun. Also, we love barn red as a house color!
ReplyDeleteAt the end of a day in an overly air-conditioned office, I actually like stepping out into the triple-digit heat of the late afternoon. I seem to soak up the heat for a while. Then I retreat inside my home too.
ReplyDeleteHere in PA, the 100 degree days seem to have vanished for the year--not a moment too soon. I hate being cooped up too.
ReplyDeleteIt's like that here too...shades drawn etc. but at night it is cool---perfect days for grapes. But, now that I can walk again, the heat inhibits the trail excursions. It's hard to reclaim the 5:00 mornings. It will take time. Maybe I'm in the acceptance phase of later life.:)
ReplyDeleteI like heat much more than cold, but this summer has just about done me in. The heat plus the high humidity is getting harder and harder to take.
ReplyDeleteVery humid here in Nova Scotia. Yesterday was about 85F with 90% humidity. Too hot to get much work done!
ReplyDeletei really hate the heat. and i sound so spoiled saying that, because i grew up in LA without air conditioning. but there is something about evening fog and temps not normally over 80 on a hot day that spoils a person.
