Birthday on the Duckabush River
We had this crazy plan for the pirate's birthday, we were going to spend the day in Seattle. Take the ferry from Bainbridge Island (where we would leave our car) and just walk off the ferry in Seattle and walk around the very cool waterfront. It sounded like a great idea. Then in the morning, before we left, we remembered who we really are. We lived in Santa Cruz for 15 years. We were 70 miles south of San Francisco all that time. We can count on one hand the number of times we went to the city. So, we rethought our plans, figured we have 15 years to make it to Seattle three times. We decided instead to take a hike along the Duckabush River in the Olympic Mountain range. It was great. The trail doesn't actually parallel the river, which was a little disappointing, but when we finally did reach the river it was spectacular and well worth the journey. We sat and listened to the wild water as it poured over granite boulders. It's a sound that everyone who loves the earth should hear. We tried to record it with our camera, but couldn't figure out how to do it.
