Kingfisher Diving for Food

A photographic update: We seem to have found where this Kingfisher hangs out at the end of the day. So here's one more view.

The red chest band is a sure sign this bird is a female.

The small black dot in the sky is the kingfisher.

The Belted Kingfisher close-up shot is from Saturday evening, and the beach shots were taken on Monday. We just love watching this bird hunt. It hovers for quite some time before it plunges into the sea. It may not appear to be as awesome as a raptor with a rodent in its talons, but it is as skillful a hunter. We often hear the kingfisher before we see it. It has a very distinctive voice. I highly recommend that you check out the link below and listen to the sound recording.
